Social & Recreational Activities for Children with Special Needs at Aspiring Youth Program

2400 NE 95th St, Seattle, WA 98115

Eligibility

We are not able to support youth who need assistance with non-verbal communication or toileting, as we do not have staff trained to meet those needs. Because we do not provide 1:1 support, we are not a good fit for participants who have had recent or frequent aggression, elopement (running away), or behavioral support needs that require 1:1 staffing for safety or engagement.

Description

Aspiring Youth provides after-school social groups and supportive summer camp programming for kids ages 5–18, as well as programming for young adults ages 18–26. We support youth whose needs can be met with a 4:1 participant-to-staff ratio. A formal diagnosis is not required to participate. Many of our participants are autistic or have ADHD, mild cognitive delays, learning challenges, or social anxiety. Our programs are based on an experiential learning model and are designed for verbal participants. In general, we are a good fit for kids who benefit from conversation-based learning and are working on skills like building confidence, perspective-taking, flexibility, self-advocacy, and social problem-solving.
